Coming out of hibernation...

Oh, how I've missed all of you so much!

I'm so sorry to have just left the way I did... I do have a good excuse, though. I promise! :) And I will fill you all in very shortly.

But for now, just wanted to let you know that 1) yes, I am alive, and 2) yes, I am ok. :)

Man, it feels good to be typing this post for you. That's how much I've missed you all!

I hope everything is going well for all of you, and I will slowly be making my rounds to all of your blogs to get caught up on everything.

Until later! :)

I love surprises!

When I don't know about them, anyway. I actually hate them if I've been told there's going to be a surprise, but I have to wait for it.
.
Lucky for me, Willy is great at keeping surprises to himself until it's time to reveal.
.
Our anniversary is next week, and he just surprised me with Widespread Panic tickets for two nights in a row!
.
So, this weekend, we're packing up and driving 350 miles to celebrate our anniversary with two nights of Widespread Panic!!!
..
Luckily, Willy's dad lives nearby [the concert site]. Unfortunately, we don't get to see him often because he is 350 miles away, so Trey will get in some quality Papa Bill time, while Willy and I celebrating- Panic style!
.
Saying that I'm stoked is an understatement!
.
All I can say is that...
.
I HAVE THE BEST HUSBAND!!! EVER! :)

Overcoming Frustration

Teaching a child to deal with frustration can be tough. Really tough. Especially when Mommy is easily frustrated, herself.
.
There are several different techniques in calming down and refocusing. What works best for me is deep, slow breathing. Think yoga breathing.
.
Trey has a tendency to get super frustrated super easy. What can I say? It's not really his fault. It's probably mine. So I am trying to teach him the same deep, slow breathing that works for me.
.
This technique seems to work well for Trey...for the most part.
.
We use it a lot during the school year, during homework time. We have to use it sometimes when it's time to clean the play room. We even have to use it sometimes when we're putting the Transformers back together.
.
But it's very rewarding to see a child who can take this technique, get past his frustrations, and move on to conquer his goal.
.
I love making flower necklaces, and have always made them for Trey during the Spring and Summer. He's always tried to make them with me, but has never quite mastered that detailed motor skill... Until this year!
.
We were sitting out in the yard one evening. He was playing with the dog, and I was making him a necklace [which ended up being Barkley's necklace.] Trey decided that he was going to make his own! Several little flowers got demolished in the process. He got so frustrated with himself. We stopped to take some deep, slow breaths together.
.
And before I knew it- that little Stinker was wearing a crown!
.
The Nature Prince, he called himself! :)
